The Lion King is a Walt Disney film about a lion whose family and kingdom makes him realize how important the circle of life really is. Many children and parents alike adore the film. Many kids would enjoy dressing up as a Lion King character such as Simba, the King of the Lions, for Halloween or just for playtime. Here we will make an easy Simba costume that any child will love and adore.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tan fabric, yardage according to the pattern
  • Sewing machine
  • Pattern for lion costume
  • Scissors and pins
  1. Step 1

Pin the fabric to the Lion King pattern for your child's size.

  2. Step 2

Use the scissors to cut the pattern out of the tan fabric. All like pieces or corresponding pieces such as inside and outside of right leg, should be pinned together with the shiny or furry sides on the inside.

  3. Step 3

Insert the pinned areas of one set of like pieces under the foot of the sewing machine and sew from beginning to end of fabric, double stitching the ends. Continue this will all parts of the costume, so that inside and outside legs are completed for left and right, front and back.

  4. Step 4

Sew each of the legs to the body, one at a time with the sewing machine by inserting the material under the foot pinned together with a ¼ inch of fabric as a seam area.

  5. Step 5

Remove the pins from all pieces. Turn the costume right sides out and try on the child for fitting.

Tips & Warnings
  • Adjustments can be made if the suit is too large. Simply pin the suit while the child is wearing it, and turn it inside out again. Sew along the pins to create a smaller suit. Remember to insert the pins on the dull side, or the side of the fabric without fur so that the seams are made inside the suit and not on the outside. When creating seams, it is best to use ¼ inch of fabric along the outer edge to keep the fabric from unraveling while being worn. Fabrics can be purchased that have fur attached already, or patterns that already have the designs created on them. These can be found at most fabric stores under the "easy to sew" sections for beginners. Remember to always double stitch or go back over the stitching at each end of the fabric to keep the stitches from falling out.
