Fishing with live mullet can be a very productive means of catching large fish. Hooking the mullet properly to the hook is essential for a natural bait presentation and will resulting in catching more fish.

      Take a live mullet from the bait bucket and hold it in your hand so that the back of the fish is against the palm of your hand. Make sure to have a good grip on the mullet before you begin to hook the bait. Beware of the fin on the bak, it has a pointy bone that could stick into your hand of you are not careful!

      I like Mustad 9174 size 1/0 for general fishing use.

      Insert the hook underneath the jaw just behind the lower lip. Begin to press the hook through the bait.

      The hook should come out on the top of the mullet through one of its nostrils. Now you have hooked a mullet that will remain alive that will catch not only more, but larger fish.
