How to Enhance Your Accent Through an ESL Class
By means of know-how, I’ve noticed that the majority of ESL students find it very difficult to improve their pronunciation. While it’s almost unattainable to gain an accent-free speech, it is achievable to sound more English. To begin with, you should get rid of your bashfulness. When you are unwilling to copy how English speakers talk, you’ll never attain a neat and confident pronunciation. Furthermore, locals will find it truly tough to understand you, since what sounds alike to you can sound very unusual to a local. Two sounds that make a distinction in sense are known as phonemes, and different languages register different phonemes. If you say Sean when you mean John, you cannot expect an English speaker to figure out who you are talking about, unless you’re presuming they will try to discern what you’re attempting to communicate, which is kind of like handing over the job of fixing your faults to them. -

In order to perfect the way you speak, initially you must learn how to listen. You can achieve this in many ways: watching TV, listening to music. Try to watch a complete movie without reading the subtitles. Don’t get dispirited if you can’t grasp all the words. Are you aware that blind people develop very sensitive hearing? Follow their example. Remove the subtitles and your hearing will improve.
Ask someone to read a book to you. Or do it yourself, and make a recording of your voice so you can listen to it later.
Listen to music and browse the Internet for the lyrics. Read them along with the song. Allow yourself to sing. Usually, as we sing, we pronounce much better (which proves that our inadequate pronunciation is related to reticense), and could be that that’s because we’re plainly copying, with no limits. -

Clearly, studying phonetic concepts helps, however, remember that native speakers never studied that. I’ve seen students who show precisely the same pronunciation after twelve months of going to a Phonology course. It doesn’t indicate it’s not helpful; it is more than helpful: it is a science. And as a science, it analyzes human phonic material, and it is intensely connected to the rest of linguistics. However, for you to perfect your pronunciation, should utilize your senses rather than your brain. In language, you permanently must center on interaction and instinct. Or else, you’ll lose track of everything, and you’ll eventually be facing an unfamiliar object you don’t understand how to manage. This is why a student that understands what an allophone is, doesn’t automatically pronounce more accurately. Notice your senses, pay attention and your brain will work it out for you.
