Make Seashell Crafts: Beach in a Ball Christmas Tree Ornament

This craft is simple, easy and quick to make. If you have tiny shells from the beach, or extra shells in your craft supplies, make these for fun Christmas tree ornaments. They make unique gifts as well.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • very small seashells
  • beach sand or craft sand from any craft store
  • clear glass Christmas tree ornament balls
  • decorative ribbon, 1/2 inch or less wide
  • optional: funnel
  1. Step 1

Open your package of clear glass tree ornaments. You can buy these is various sizes from very small, to very large. For this craft you may want the medium size balls. They usually are sold six to a box at most large craft stores or retail stores. Craft stores usually carry them earlier in the year and offer summer sales. Use your plastic tray, that your clear balls are packaged in. Simply sit each ball upright and remove the metal top gently.

  2. Step 2

With the corner of your packaged sand, pour a small amount into each glass ornament. If you have a small funnel, it makes this step much easier. You can even make a small funnel out of paper and tape the side to hold as you pour your sand.

You can find beach sand in various colors and textures. This is usually sold in the floral sections of craft stores, or department stores. Be sure to ask a clerk if you cannot find any.

If you are lucky enough to live by a beach, simply use beach sand directly from your beach (if allowed in your area).

  3. Step 3

Drop a few tiny seashells into the top of each ornament and replace your metal ornament top to seal.

  4. Step 4

Tie on a piece of yarn, ribbon, elastic string, or other scrap string for a hanger. If desired, tie a ribbon with the color and texture of your choice to personalize them.

Tips & Warnings
  • These make nice holiday gifts for teachers, friends, family, ornament exchange parties, neighbors, and Sunday school teachers.
  • Use caution with storing your glass ornaments until the holidays.
  • Do not overfill the ornaments with sand, as it will make it too heavy for the Christmas tree.
