Add storage in the space above your toilet to maximize your bathroom's storage.

Having adequate storage space in a small bathroom can make a world of difference in the room's functionality. Rather than having makeup items precariously perched atop your toilet paper supply, you could have all of your bathroom necessities stowed neatly away. In addition to making your small bathroom a more pleasant place to occupy, extra storage can help streamline your morning routine by keeping all of your belongings in easy-to-find locations. Instructions

    • 1

Make or purchase storage boxes in which to place extra washcloths or soap and toothpaste. These boxes may stack neatly in the corner near the toilet if they have lids, or they can rest on the countertop next to the sink if you prefer an open box appearance.

    • 2

Add shelves to the blank wall space. Install a simple shelving unit above the toilet, or purchase a cabinet specially designed for placement above the toilet. A corner shelving unit may maximize the space in the corner behind the door, if the layout of your bathroom results in wasted space in that area.

    • 3

Add baskets and trays. If you have a ledge around your sink, use decorative trays and baskets to store items. By coordinating the trays with your color scheme you can add to the bathroom decor as well.

Make storage space under your sink. If your sink's plumbing is exposed, attach a curtain to the perimeter of the sink with hook-and-loop fasteners. This will allow placement of necessities under the sink without showing guests exactly what bathroom supplies you use. If you have a cabinet-style sink, install a roll-out rack underneath to keep supplies easily accessible.
