Most Wal-Mart stores have Vision Centers inside the buildings for walk-in customers. This provides an affordable and convenient alternative to going elsewhere for vision care. If you want to become an optician at Wal-Mart, follow these steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure you are qualified to become an optician at Wal-Mart before you apply. You need to be a student optician, an international optician graduate or a licensed optician. As a student optician you can qualify for an internship, which may or may not be a paid position.

    • 2

Understand that you will not be an employee of Wal-Mart or the Vision Center. You will be an independent doctor of optometry. This means you will need to pay your own taxes as you will be an independent contractor. You will pay a monthly fee for the lease of your space at the Wal-Mart Vision Center. It is a business partnership between you and Wal-Mart. You are provided with the medical equipment and tools necessary.

    • 3

Create a resume to use when applying for a position to become an optician at Wal-Mart. Your resume should summarize your skills, experience and education as an optician. Use the optician resume sample in the resource box below to help guide you in preparing your resume for a partnership with Wal-Mart Vision Center.

    • 4

Upload your resume online at the "Your Resume Profile" link in the resource box below. In order to upload your resume you will need to create a username and password. You also will be asked for your email address. If you do not wish to upload your own resume (or cannot) you will need to fill out the entire form on that website page.

    • 5

Fill in the information that your resume left out. When your resume is uploaded you will be brought back to the website page with the form on it. Only this time the form will be partially filled in from the information on your uploaded resume. Go through the entire form filling in the required information. You will not be able to submit your resume until all the required information is included.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wait patiently for a phone call or email regarding your resume and a partnership with Wal-Mart. Apply while you are an optician student.

  • If you terminate your contract as a Wal-Mart optician you will not be able to work within one mile of the store for one year.

This is not correct information on how to become an optician. Number two on this article is about the eye doctor and not the optician who is an employee of Wal-Mart and isn't a doctor.
