Regular grass mowing is often boring and tedious. You've cut your lawn and now it looks like all your neighbors cookie cutter lawns...again. How about adding a little ZING and interest to your lawn the next time you need to mow and I think you'll find your lawn will look better and the mowing time will seem quicker...

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • sharp blades on your mower
  1. Step 1

Zen means flow or flowing. Instead of harsh straight pass cutting lines back and forth you will want to follow any natural curves or angles. The idea is to mow in a pattern that is more natural to your yard or will make a pattern show up in the grass that looks really different. This works best with the mower height set to 3".

  2. Step 2

If you have a flower bed that curves follow the curve and extend it out into the lawn while cutting. Around a lamp post start mowing in progressively larger circles until you get to the sides. Sometimes you can bring out the circles a few rows and then take a totally random curvy run to the edge of the lawn. Now mow out from that new cutting path.

  3. Step 3

The idea is to create a flowing pattern in the grass by mowing in a curving flowing manner. Try to follow and mimic any natural turn or twist. The next week do something entirely different. You'll like the new look!

Tips & Warnings
  • Have a ZEN mowing contest with the kids with a reward for the best design
  • Maybe they'll want to start mowing the lawn! Maybe

on 7/25/2009 I'll try it today. The 3" mower blade setting is helpful. Good article.
