How to Learn Photoshop in 24 Hours

Photoshop is a powerful software tool that can be mastered with relative ease. Because it uses intuitive settings and controls, Photoshop's only real limitation is in the user's creativity. Photoshop can manipulate images in graphic design to create completely new images. Learning the finer details of the program may take some time, but a remarkable number of Photoshop's potentials can be realized within a single day.

Instructions

  1. Size Images Appropriately

    • 1

Pull any photograph from either a private source or directly from the Web. The better the resolution of the image, the better the finished alteration will be, regardless of the finished size.

    • 2

Determine if the finished image is intended for Web or print publication. Images intended for print destinations will require more memory from your computer and may cause this process to take longer.

    • 3

Click on the "Help" heading and select "Resize Image" from the drop-down menu. From here you will be prompted on whether the image is for print or online and if the dimensions of the image need to remain proportionate during the resizing.

    • 4

Save the resized image, which will likely now bear a generic name such as "Resized Image." Not doing this means when you move on to the next phase of the process, you may be accidentally altering the original image instead of the resized one.

    Play With Stroke and Fill

    • 5

Click on the broken rectangle icon on the grey work palette and draw a rectangle somewhere on the image by dragging the mouse from left to right. This allows you to closely control the area to be altered. If the rectangle is not drawn where it should be, simply double-click the image until the rectangle disappears and try again.

    • 6

Hover the arrow over the "Edit" heading and follow the drop-down menu to the "Fill" subheading. From here you will be able to select a variety of color fill effects that will superimpose and alter the area with different colors and photograph negative effects of varying opacity. Experiment with these different color manipulations.

    • 7

Hover the arrow over each of the different headings across the board and experiment with the varying effects that can be accomplished with the selected section of the image. The only way to become truly proficient with the Photoshop software is by trial and error.
