How to Decorate Topiaries for a Wedding
Topiaries are a simple and inexpensive centerpiece for any wedding. They are custom-made to fit a bride's theme, layout and taste and allow for an elegant means of revealing your creative side for the special day. Larger topiaries can even be utilized to decorate gift, cake and DJ areas.
Things You'll Need
- Small clay, plastic or glass pots
- Ribbons, paint or other accenting decorations for the pot and dowel
- Green wooden dowel
- Glue gun and glue sticks
- Floral foam block (for securing wood dowel)
- Moss
- Scissors and wire cutters
- Silk flowers (typically the type and colors are determined by the wedding's overall theme)
- Green Styrofoam shapes
- Silk leaves
Instructions
-
-
1
Decorate the pot, if desired.
-
2
Secure the wooden dowel to the bottom of the pot with either hot glue or by placing into a tight-fitting piece of floral foam. Fill snugly with moss for extra support.

3
Cut the flowers off of the stems with scissors or wire cutters. If the flowers are in clusters, keep them in the clusters.
-
4
Using the glue gun, place glue on the flowers and press them into the Styrofoam shapes. Continue this process until the entire shape is covered in flowers.
-
5
Place the shape onto the wooden dowel. For extra hold, add glue to the dowel before placing the shape on top.
-
6
Add ribbons and leaves to the dowel for an accent.

Tips & Warnings
Topiaries should be covered with a light cloth until the day of the event to ensure they do not collect dust. Place them in an area where nothing can fall on top of or be stacked onto them. An ideal storage for silk topiaries is a solid box. Topiaries should be stored in a cool place to avoid reactivating the glue.
Glue guns get very hot. Use with caution and work in an area away from young children and pets.
