Instructions

    • 1

Remove all items from the deck. Sweep off any dirt and debris. Take a small broom to all corners and remove leaves or cobwebs.

    • 2

Mix oxygen bleach with warm water. Follow label instructions as they vary depending on brand. Do NOT confuse with chlorine bleach. Chlorine bleach will damage the wood on decks. Oxygen bleach in powder form can be purchased at any home-improvement center.

    • 3

Scrub deck with oxygen bleach/water mixture using a long-handled push broom. The oxygen cleaning action will not only remove dirt, but it will kill all mold or mildew buildup.

    • 4

Rinse with clear water using a garden hose. Allow three to four hours drying time.

    • 5

Apply a water-based epoxy sealant after the deck has completely dried. Sealant can be brushed or sprayed on. It will protect the wood from the elements and assist in repelling water. Repeat every four to five years for lasting protection and beauty.

Tips & Warnings

  • A long-handled push broom will ease the strain on the back. You can substitute oxygen bleach for a product such as Simple Green.

  • Follow all safety instructions for chemicals. Pressure washers will damage any wood that has been exposed to UV rays. Never use a pressure washer on a deck.
