How To Make a TV HD Ready

High-Definition (HD) Television gives the viewer a higher resolution picture for high-definition-encoded programming than non-HD televisions are capable of doing. This is due to the maximum number of pixel lines on the two types of TVs. A non-HD TV is only capable of displaying 625 lines of pixels, whereas HD TVs can display between 720 and 1080 lines. The U.S. eliminated non-digital television broadcast in 2009, which requires all televisions to either be an HD TV or be capable of receiving and displaying digital television signals through the use of a conversion box. If your TV is not HD or HD-ready, then you must configure it for use with a digital conversion box.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn off your television.

    • 2

Connect the Digital Converter box to your television using an HDMI cable. Then, connect the DVD player to the TV using a component or HDMI capable depending on the resources you have available and the number of input connections for HDMI available on the TV and DVD player. Most older DVD players do not support digital playback.

    • 3

Connect your conversion box to the television. If your TV and conversion box are HDMI compatible, use that for the connection, for higher-quality audio and video.

    • 4

Connect the HD antenna cable to the digital conversion box and turn your TV on. It will now be ready to display converted HD TV shows.
