How to Install OXT in OpenOffice

OXT extensions expand the functionality of OpenOffice much like web browsers, such as Mozilla's Firefox. In OpenOffice.org 2.0.4 and later, the *.oxt extension designates a new registered mime type for third-party developers to add in functionality. Typically, you can double-click any OXT file and it will install automatically. If OpenOffice is not your default productivity software, you will need to follow a few steps to install it.

Instructions

    • 1

Unzip your OXT files into your "directory share/extension/install" directory.

    • 2

Browse back to the OpenOffice directory, typically "C:\Program Files\OpenOffice."

    • 3

      Double-click the "unopkg" executable.

    • 4

Input the name of the OXT file you are trying to add, for example, "Ritepack.oxt".

    • 5

      Restart your copy of OpenOffice.

Tips & Warnings

  • Unopkg will only recognize files in the install directory; if they are anywhere else, it will not correctly initialize them.
