Learning to read and write is easiest as a child. However, many adults find themselves faced with this dilemma, especially if they are trying to learn a second language. Learning to read and write can be greatly challenging, but it can be simplified with the correct approach. Listen to pronunciation tapes or watch pronunciation videos to model correct enunciation of each letter.

Group the letters together to form words. Watch videos and listen to tapes again to derive the correct way to pronounce letters together.

Refer to reading texts to practice what you have learned, and attempt to read as much as you can. Begin by learning small words, and refer to a dictionary for the correct pronunciation of more complex words.

Begin writing by first learning to copy the letters of the language's alphabet. Print each letter clearly and concisely several times until you can retain how to print each letter from memory.
