Installing TightVNC remote control software as a service will allow you to have it started automatically and run even when there is not a user logged into the computer. This will allow you to access your computer from anywhere, even when you are not logged in. You will also be able to use Control+ALT+Delete.

      Download TightVNC (see References below for link) and right-click it when it is finished. Click "Properties" and the "Compatibility" tab. Click to run this program in compatibility mode for "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)." Click "Run this program as an administrator" and click "OK."

      Double-click the installation file and follow the on-screen instructions. Click "Install" to finish the installation. TightVNC is now installed onto your Windows Vista computer. Click the "Start" button and then "All Programs." Scroll down to the "TightVNC" folder, clicking it and then clicking the "Administration" folder.

      Right-click "Install VNC Service" and go to the "Compatibility" tab, once again clicking to run this program in compatibility mode for "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)." Click "Run this program as an administrator" and click "OK." Click "Install VNC Service" and TightVNC will be installed as a service.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to run the programs in Windows XP service pack 2 mode.

  • Always use a password when using a VNC server.
