How to Troubleshoot an Nvidia Video Card

With the many video card configurations and drivers available, it is not uncommon to run into problems. Follow the steps below to solve most common problems with Nvidia cards.

  • Most up-to-date drivers for your card

    Troubleshooting

  1. Step 1

    Open the control panel. Select "Add/Remove Programs." Delete your current video card drivers. Install the newest drivers from Nvidia.com. Restart your computer.

  2. Step 2

    Select "Start" in the task bar. Click "Run" and type "DXDIAG" without the quotes.

  3. Step 3

    Open the Display tab and click "Test Direct3D." If the test is not successful, disable Direct3D Acceleration. Rerun the test.

  4. Step 4

    Verify that your cards fan is doing a sufficient job of cooling the card. Consult the instructions for your case to learn how to open it.
