How to Cook Beef Chunks

Beef chunks, which can vary in size, shape and cut of beef, are sections of meat that can be used for a variety of recipes. Beef chunks are usually available in both fresh and canned varieties. The most common way to cook beef chunks is to stew them. Stewing beef tenderizes it, which is especially important when working with beef chunks. Beef chunks can come from many different cuts of meat, and some are tougher than others. Once the beef chunks are cooked, they can be shredded and eaten on bread or consumed in stew, soup or shepherd's pie. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pour about a cup of flour into a gallon-sized zip-top plastic bag. Add a dash of salt and pepper and shake gently to mix.

    • 2

Place the beef chunks in the bag with the flour. Close the bag and shake to coat the meat. Remove the beef chunks from the bag.

    • 3

Heat about a tablespoon of oil in a skillet and add the beef chunks. Saute the chunks over medium heat until they're browned on all sides. Transfer the meat to either a stew pot or slow cooker.

    • 4

Pour enough cooking liquid into the pot to cover the meat. The liquid can be broth, red wine, water or a combination of the three. Add a chopped onion and two or three diced cloves of garlic to the pot.

    • 5

Simmer the beef chunks on low for several hours, or until they're cooked all the way through. Remove the beef chunks from the pot and allow them to cool slightly. Trim away the excess fat from the meat, then use the beef in any recipe you desire.

Tips & Warnings

  • If using the beef in a stew, soup or other recipe that requires a broth or gravy, consider using the beef chunks' cooking liquid instead of water or fresh broth in the dish for a richer flavor.
