Unpack and set up the HP Officejet 7310 if you have not already. Be sure to install the cartridge and plain white paper.

Connect the power cord and adapter to the HP Officejet 7310. Also connect the phone cord that came with the HP Officejet 7310. If you cannot find it you can use any phone cord. Make sure that the phone cord is connected into the left port on the HP Officejet 7310, which is labeled as "1-LINE" on the back.

Connect your phone to the HP Officejet 7310 if you plan on having a phone by your computer using the same phone line as the fax. The phone will connect into the other phone port on the back of the HP Officejet 7310.

Insert the phone cord that is only plugged into the HP Officejet 7310 into the phone jack. You must have the HP Officejet 7310 powered on at all times in order to receive faxes and phone calls.

Install the HP Officejet 7310 product software that came with the machine to be able to manage incoming and outgoing faxes. If you cannot locate the CD with the software you can download it from the HP site (see Resources). Once this is installed and your HP Officejet 7310 is connected to the phone jack you can send and receive faxes with your HP Officejet 7310.
