The best way to have a clean microscope is to not let it get dirty in the first place with careful handling and by ensuring lens caps are on when not in use. Sometimes, however, a proper cleaning is required.

  • Distilled water
  • Kimwipes
  • Rubbing alcohol

      Remove any dust or other loose buildup from the exterior of the microscope by blowing on it with compressed air.

      Clean any smears left by hand oils or chemicals by wiping the the body of the microscope with a cloth with a light application of rubbing alcohol.

      Clean the lens only if there are visible impediments when in use, since lenses are very delicate, and overcleaning can damage them.

      Spray the lens with a light application of the compressed air if your lens needs cleaning.

      Wipe the lens gently with distilled water and the Kimwipes if impediments persist.

      Wipe the lens gently with rubbing alcohol and Kimwipes only of smears or obstructions persist on the lens after Steps 4 and 5.
