Step 1
Get rid of the old quilt and opt for lighter blankest. Get ones in cooling colors that reflect any sun that comes into your room. This will make your room less hot. The best color to use is white but anything light will do. You can also use earthy colors to reflect nature's changing season.
-
Step 2
Get an oval chair and put it near the window where you can relax and read a good summer novel. Stack up your favorite magazines close to your cozy sitting area. This chair is both comfortable and affordable.
-
Step 3
Dust everything including vents and any wood furniture. Get rid of the cob webs. Use Pledge or some other wood polishing furniture product.
-
Step 4
Repaint if you want a permanent change. Choose a soothing color like blue, beige, or if you are more daring - pink, light green, or yellow. Be sure to buy a matching bed spread.
-
Step 5
If you don't have an air conditioner or fan, get one. No matter where you live, you should at least have a fan to help you cool off.
-
Step 6
Keep a spray bottle of water by your bed to spritz yourself when it gets hot.
-
Step 7
Change the curtains. Use curtains that complement your bedroom or bed's theme. White sheer curtains reflects some heat away from your room while letting more light in at the same time.
-
Step 8
Use a beach towel for your showers. Hang it up i your room to add to the summer atmosphere.
-
Step 9
Get new screens if you don't' have them on your window s already or clean the ones you do have with warm or hot water, dish detergent, and dust rags.
-
Step 10
Place a mirror, preferably the length of your torso or longer, on the side of where there are no windows. Face the mirror towards the windows on the opposite side of your room. It will reflect the light back and brighten your room even more.
-
Step 11
Put away your sweaters, quilts, and heavy blankets for the winter in a storage room or away in your closet. Try to use space saving boxes or bags.
