Staying fit and healthy is often difficult when you work in an environment that promotes unhealthy snacks and habits. Here are some tips for creating an office focused on healthy choices.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Create a wellness policy. Encourage your office to adopt a policy where only healthy snacks, such as fruit and vegetables are allowed between meals. As part of the policy eliminate soda, etc. and stick to water only. Employees can eat whatever they like for lunch, as you don't want to policy to be too restricting.

  2. Step 2

Change the focus of office celebrations to include fun activities with prizes as opposed to being focused on food.

  3. Step 3

Implement a weekly or twice a week exercise session after work. Employees can pool their money to hire a fitness instructor to come to your place of work or you could simply put in a DVD. Give prizes to those who participate in all the sessions for a specific time frame, say eight weeks.

  4. Step 4

Consider implementing the America on the Move program. This program encourages people to increase the number of steps they take each day. Each participant receives a pedometer and there are prizes for those who walk the most. There is also an incentive chart for participants to view their progress. Contact America on the Move for more information on this program and for free pedometers.

  5. Step 5

Post healthy recipes and meal or snack ideas on a bulletin board. Everyone can share their ideas and get a new idea when needed!
