Part of keeping gerbils healthy includes their dietary needs and proper care for these needs. These needs are simple yet very needed to keep a healthy pet gerbil. Make sure your gerbil is happy by keeping it healthy with diet and nutrition!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dry Gerbil Mixture
  • Gerbil Food Bowl
  • Fresh produce
  1. Step 1

    Start your gerbils off with about a 1/2 cup of dry food mix that contains things such as seeds and nuts, feed this amount to each gerbil you own daily.

  2. Step 2

    Dump out old husks and left over stale and dry food daily from your gerbils food bowl before feeding them the new days half a cup of dry mixture.

  3. Step 3

    Freeze food mixes in the freezer for 24 hours before feeding to gerbils, this is too kill any bugs or eggs that may be in the food and get on your gerbils.. increasing chance of disease and even death.

    Feed your gerbil fresh produce, things such as bananas, lettuce, pear, and celery will keep your gerbil happy and healthy with the nutrients in the fresh foods. Remember that your gerbils are not picky you can feed them the left over produce that no longer appeals to you.

    Also keep in mind that feeding apple to gerbils is good but don't give them the apple's seeds, these are poison to gerbils. Instead cut apple away from the core and give then the outside, not the entire apple or just the core of the apple.

    Wash all produce before giving it to gerbils, warm water works just fine.

    Wash out food bowls once a week with clean water, do not use bleach, this is unhealthy for your gerbils, mild soap may be used but rinse completely before returning to gerbils cage.

  • Apple seeds are poison to gerbils
  • Wash produce before feeding to gerbils
  • Freeze dry food mixtures to kill possible bugs, eggs or even mites that could be living in the food
  • Remove all fresh food later on to prevent sicknesses.
