Things You'll Need:
- body of water
- Bathing suit
- Goggles
-
Step 1
If you are just learning the side stroke swim this might become your favorite swim. It is great exercise and a good change in technique. You can use your right arm or left arm as your lead whichever feels more comfortable.
-
Step 2
Begin with pushing off the side wall or gain some momentum by swimming regularly. Just get your body moving. Transition so one shoulder is under water and the other is above water so you are on your side. Bring your knees to your chest and your lead arm to your belly button.
-
Step 3
Reach out with the arm that is underwater and extend it like you are picking an apple from a tree keeping half your body underwater. At the same time push your legs away from your chest.
-
Step 4
Bring your lead arm back to your belly button and put the apple in the basket. At the same time bring your legs back to your chest.
-
Step 5
Your lead arm and your legs should be meeting at the core of your body and extending out at the same time. Reach for the apple and put it in the bucket.
