Have a chair in need of a new look? Using a slipcover can make an old chair look brand new and allow it to fit in to any room.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Old chair
  • Slipcover (or decorative sheet)
  • Helper (if available)
  1. Step 1

Figure out what color you want to change your chair to. It can be a color to match existing furniture or a complementary color to a painted room. Find your desired slipcover at a store and purchase.

  2. Step 2

Most slipcovers contain letters to let you know which sides are which. Follow instructions with letters if so. If not, use a helper to lay out slipcover and determine sides by visualization.

  3. Step 3

Start by pulling slipcover over chair, making sure not to rip fabric but gently pulling it over arms and backs. Continue pulling over chair until all sides are touching the floor.

  4. Step 4

If the slipcover contains ties, tie them into bows at their designated sections, making sure not to make the bow too tight. Tuck any remaining fabric into all crevices and stretching to get rid of all wrinkles. Once fabric is tucked, you should have a new slip-covered chair!

  5. Step 5

If using a bedsheet to slipcover, simply pick a large enough sheet to cover entire chair and tuck in extra material so sheet is snug against chair.

Tips & Warnings
  • To get any wrinkles out of the slipcover before putting on the chair, put in dryer for 15 minutes with damp cloth, unless otherwise noted.
  • Slipcovers come in many different colors and textures so make sure to see all your options before you decide.
  • Make sure to get the proper slipcover for your chair type. Anything that does not match will not look right once put on.
