Step 1
When the party is not at your house follow these guidelines.
Allow the host to know what you will be bringing to the potluck. This helps to make sure there is enough of each course, like main dishes, side dishes, desserts. -
Step 2
Ask how many people will be attending the potluck so you know how much you should bring. You want to make sure there is enough for everyone to enjoy your dish.
-
Step 3
Don't bring a dish that needs to be cooked. Make sure you do all the preparing at home and the dish is fully cooked.
-
Step 4
Bring your own utensils to serve your dish. Otherwise the host is going to be short on utensils and trying to find some.If you worry about not getting them back, simply write your name on the dish and utensils so you know they will be returned.
-
Step 5
If you have a dish that spoils without refrigeration, like shrimp cocktails, jello, potato salad, chicken salad, tuna, etc. Then transport it in an ice chest or a cooler pack. This helps so the host does not have to move things around and find space in her fridge.
-
Step 6
Most important, show up on time with your dish. The host is relying on everyone being punctual with a dish that is ready to be served!

on 8/19/2009 Okay... here is one for you. We have a group that get together and bring food. There are two couples and the others are all single. The couples bring one very small dish. Shouldn't it be one dish per person... and NOT one dish per couple and each single person bring one dish?
