Step 1
Paint your walls pale green, light blue, pink, cream, pale yellow, or any pastel color. If you prefer wallpaper, choose a muted floral pattern or something with fine stripes. Pink or red roses always say Shabby Chic.
-
Step 2
Iron furniture or accessories that are slightly chipped or a little rusted can be used in any Shabby Chic room.
-
Step 3
Wall mirrors are beautiful in any room. Choose wood or metal framed mirrors with a white, distressed finish.
-
Step 4
Try to go with a light colored carpeting, or cover wood floors with floral, pastel area rugs.
-
Step 5
Light, airy curtains will work in any room in your Shabby Chic home.
-
Step 6
Decorate with overstuffed couches, sofas, and chairs. Choose pale colors such as white, biege, or cream. Or use muted blues, greens, or pinks. An easy way to change the color of your overstuffed furniture is to cover sofas and chairs with slipcovers. Delicate floral patterns as well as red or pink roses will work great.

Step 7
Mismatched furniture is okay. You can make unrelated pieces of furniture go together by refinishing all pieces in the same color or closely related colors. Don't forget to distress your newly-finished pieces.
-
Step 8
Faded rose print bed sheets are great in the bedroom as well as floral or pastel striped bedspreads, quilts, or comforters.
-
Step 9
Don't forget the lighting! Soft lighting, lamps, chandeliers, and candles are a must for your Shabby Chic home.
