WARNING - if you're planning to use the Kindle while driving, make all your adjustments to volume and speed BEFORE you set out. "Adjusting while driving" is just as dangerous as texting. If you've heard enough while driving, press the "BACK" key (below the square button on the right), rather than fumbling with multiple buttons.

We have a visually handicapped member of our family and the Kindle has been a godsend. I highly recommend it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Amazon also uses "latest generation Kindle" when referring to the Kindle 2 - but most websites are not that proper and go with the number.

  • Some books are blocked from the text-to-speech function. The publishers may have an audio version which they feel will lose sales to the Kindle. Check your book before buying.

  • As stated above, the voice is robotic. You may want to actually hear the voice before making the choice to buy.
