How to Learn Korean Pronunciation

Korean is spoken by 78 million people. The printed language is read from right to left instead of left to right, which Americans often find difficult. Fortunately, Korean is easier to pronounce than to read. It is challenging, but with time and practice it can be mastered by anyone with dedication.

Instructions

  1. How to Learn Korean Pronunciation

    • 1

Purchase a Korean pronunciation guide and dictionary, available at any major bookseller or online through amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Borders or Books-A-Million.

    • 2

Take your pronunciation guide and dictionary with you everywhere. Read them in line when you're at the grocery store or post office. Spend time reviewing every day.

    • 3

Purchase an audio course in Basic Korean and listen to it every day. In order to pronounce Korean properly, you need to hear it spoken. Most language courses employ native Korean speakers and are recorded on audio cd so they are great for review and perfect for listening on the go.

    • 4

Peruse the course catalog of your local university and see if any Korean courses are being offered. If not, you might be interested in hiring a student tutor. The language department of your university will be able to tell you if there are any Korean students who are interested in teaching Korean. Another good place to search for a tutor is an online marketplace such as CraigsList.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is better to review for fifteen minutes each day than to spend two hours at a time once a week. Listen carefully to your audio course and/or tutor, and pronounce the words just as you hear them. Be sure to go back and review them, even after you've committed the words to memory.
