Your whirlpool tub can be a wonderful place to relax after a long day, but it can also harbor dangerous bacteria. After you use your tub, water, dirt and skin cells stay in the pipes, making them a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. You should clean your whirlpool tub's pipes at least once a month to remove any built up filth. Fortunately, cleaning a whirlpool tub is easy enough for you to do yourself.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Whirlpool tub cleanser
  • Dish detergent
  • Bleach
  • Washcloth
  • Non-abrasive cleaner
  1. Step 1

Close the water jets and fill your whirlpool tub with hot water until the water level is about three inches above the jets.

  2. Step 2

Add a commercial Jacuzzi tub cleaner to the water. You can make your own cleaner by adding two tablespoons of low foam dish detergent, such as Cascade, and a half cup of bleach to the water.

  3. Step 3

Open the water jets and turn on the pump. Let the system run for about fifteen minutes to thoroughly clean out the pipes of your jetted bathtub. Drain the water.

  4. Step 4

Fill the your whirlpool bath up again with clean, cold water until the water level is about three inches above the jets. Turn on the pump again for about ten minutes to rinse out the system. Drain the water.

  5. Step 5

Wipe down the surface of the bathtub and the fixtures with the washcloth and non-abrasive cleaner. You can use an old toothbrush to clean inside and around the jet nozzles.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may need to clean your whirlpool tub more than once a month if it is used often.
