How to tie a slip clove hitch. This is a common knot used to hold almost anything that may need to be removed quickly. We use them for sail ties and to hold our fenders on our sailboat!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Line/Rope
  1. Step 1

First take the line in your hand and loop the line once around what you are tying too.

  2. Step 2

Now take the end and loop it back under what you are tying to but also above the first loop. (see pic)

  3. Step 3

Now, take a bite of this line and push a loop back through the rope laying across. (see pic)

  4. Step 4

Tighten the knot by pulling on the top of the loop and holding the other free bitter end of the rope.

  5. Step 5

To release this knot quickly, pull on the bitter end of the rope that is attached to this loop and the know will easily slip free and you can remove the line fast!

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice makes perfect!
  • This knot should not be used to hold a lot of strain or for anything that needs to be very safely secured.
