How to Organize Closet Space

How to Organize Closet Space thumbnail
Use your closet space as efficiently as possible.

Getting your closet tidy and organized will do more than save you time finding the clothes and accessories your need. A clean closet reduces the risk of household mold growing or moths feeding on your fabrics. And a tidy closet means your shirts and pants should be free of wrinkles when you need them. So remove everything from the closet, clean your shelving and vacuum so you can begin with a clean slate.

Instructions

    • 1

Go through your clothes frequently. Keep only the ones you wear. Separate the clothes that you hang up from those you fold and put in dresser drawers. Also, if you have a lot of shoes, invest in a shoe caddy to save space.

Install some shelving to one side or overhead if you have a large closet. Then you will have space to place boxes and items that otherwise might get thrown around.

    • 3

Use a double rod for hanging shirts and pants to save space. Your closet will look cleaner, and clothes will not appear so jammed together. You could devote a portion of the closet for hanging a single row of longer clothes such as dresses or robes.

Store items and accessories in plastic, stackable bins. This way, you can store and organize items such as belts, handbags and jewelry. Hang up some plastic hooks for purses, hats or belts. After you are done, hold a yard sale to sell all the unwanted items, or you can take them to a thrift shop.

Install a tie rack to keep more formal attire in order.
