How to Make Great Coffee Using a French Press
For lovers of full-bodied coffee, the French press presents an attractive means of making your morning java. The coffee's rich flavor results from each coffee ground undergoing direct infusion throughout the brewing process. Furthermore, the lack of a paper filter means no paper residue to affect the coffee's flavor. Remove the lid and accompanying plunger from the glass beaker.

Empty the proper amount of freshly ground coffee directly into the glass beaker. For every 6 ounces of water use approximately 2 tbsp. of coffee. A standard coffee scoop measures 2 tbsp.

Use a kettle to bring filtered water to a boil. Allow the boiled water to sit for 30 seconds.

Pour the proper amount of heated water gradually into the french press, covering the coffee grounds.

Allow the grounds to rise to the surface of the water.

Pull the French press plunger out as far as it will go and fit the lid atop the glass beaker.

Allow the coffee to sit for one minute before removing the lid and using a spoon to stir the coffee. Replace the lid.

Allow the coffee to sit a second time, for four to six minutes. Push the plunger steadily down to filter the coffee through the grounds.

Pour and serve.

Tips & Warnings
Select an even grind that is just large enough to avoid passing through the filter. An even grind decreases sediment in the coffee.
