If the entered text isn't a valid URL, Firefox searches for a URL related to your terms. Firefox's default search service is Google's Browse by Name, but you're free to change it. Sometimes, though, you may install software or a toolbar that changes the Firefox keyword search to a service like Bing and want to change it back.
