How to protect your iPhone

"Waterproof" covers don't mean you can submerge your iPhone.

Protecting your iPhone is important. It's an expensive device, and the glass design on newer iPhones can crack if dropped. The more effort you make to protect your iPhone, the more likely Apple is to repair or replace the device if it is broken. Solid protective cases are probably the safest protection for your iPhone, but there are other ways that are customizable and creative.

1. Purchase a solid protective case for your iPhone. These come in a variety of colors and designs and are the best protection if you drop your iPhone. Apple, Best Buy, AT&T and Verizon offer these covers.

2. Apply a screen protector. This is a thin piece of sheer plastic with a sticky side that adheres to your screen. This protects against oil, scratches and fingerprints, and can help with glare from bright lights.

3. Apply stickers or iPhone decals to the back of your phone to protect it from scratches if you don't use a solid protective case. This is a creative way to make your iPhone stand out while still protecting it. In tandem with a screen protector, this is a good option if you rarely drop your phone but want a little extra protection.
