Things You'll Need:
- Imagination
-
Step 1
Decorate with second-hand furniture. Ask friends and family if they have items they are not using. Take advantage of flea markets, yard sales and Craigslist. You may find something fabulous for a few dollars. Also, be sure to check freecycle, where you may be able to get something free. Perhaps it will need some paint, or maybe not. It might be perfect just as it is!
-
Step 2
Host home parties to earn merchandise. This is a great way to get candles or kitchenware.
-
Step 3
Frame your children's artwork or photos that you have taken and had enlarged. Make frames yourself or buy them at yard sales or the dollar store. Remember that frames can be painted!
-
Step 4
Think outside the frame for wall decor. Do not limit yourself to something that will fit into a frame. Rugs, quilts, beautiful scarves, saris, shawls, hats, dishes, children's clothing can all become wall art.
-
Step 5
Decorate with fresh flowers and/or herbs from your yard. Grow houseplants from cuttings you get from friends. Use bowls of fresh fruit, vegetables or pine cones.
-
Step 6
Use what you have on hand for table centerpieces. Let kids help with napkin rings, placecards and favors.
