San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is one of the major hub on the west coast to travel internationally, especially to Asia. This article shows the tricks and need-to-know of how to get through SFO airport quickly.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Passport
  • Airline ticket(s)
  • things to do / eat on the airplane
  1. Step 1

Prepare for most efficient travel before getting to the airport. Almost all airlines have online check-in. Go to airline's website, and get your own boarding pass printed 2-24 hour before boarding (print your luggage check-in tag as well if you have luggage & airline offers such service). This way, you do not have to wait in line at the check-in counter.

  2. Step 2

Once you arrive at the SFO airport, if you already print out your boarding pass and only have carry-on luggage, skip check-in counter and go directly to security check. If you have luggage to check, find the luggage check-in machine (not wait in the long line) for your airline, and do so.

  3. Step 3

If you are hungry or do not like airline food (like most people), you should eat before you go through the security check. There is a good food plaza behind United Airline check-in counters, which offers various choices. There are some selections inside security check as well. The complete list can be found at http://www.flysfo.com/web/page/atsfo/shop-dine/dine/it.html.

  4. Step 4

Go through security check. Always try the left side, which is faster. If you have liquid to carry-in, remember to put them in zip lock bag. Zip lock bags are available for free. After the security personal checks your passport and you go through the glass door, there is a metal stand where you can find plenty of zip lock bags.

  5. Step 5

After passing security check, if you are primer members of the airline, obviously you will go to the lounge (e.g. United Airline Red Carpet Club). If you are not, go to the gate and find a comfortable place to wait. Note that you can still order food to-go to bring it on the airplane, if you hate airplane food.

  6. Step 6

Board the flight, and Happy flying.
