A diving header proves that you're committed to the game. You'll get a little dirty and hopefully fire up your team.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soccer Balls
  • Soccer balls
  1. Step 1

Keep your eyes on the ball until it meets your head.

  2. Step 2

Judge what the height of the ball will be at the moment of contact.

  3. Step 3

Dive toward the ball, so your body is parallel to the ground.

  4. Step 4

    Keep your neck muscles tightened.

  5. Step 5

Make contact with the ball at your hairline.

  6. Step 6

Outstretch your hands to brace your fall.

Tips & Warnings
  • As you head the ball, your eyes will close for an instant. The longer you keep them open, the more likely you are to head the ball correctly.
  • Heading the ball is not painful if you make contact with the ball at your hairline. If you avoid using the top of your head, you'll avoid seeing stars.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.

on 11/22/2005 When you head the ball, make sure you hit the ball at or a little below the hairline. If you hit anywhere above that then it will go totally backwards. Make sure you try to keep your eyes open as long as possible or you will miss the ball or get thonked and that HURTS.

on 11/22/2005 Please practice before you do this in a game. Also make sure that you have your eyes open and your mouth closed so that you don't lose any teeth. Try to land on your hands. Be strong when you go for the ball.

on 11/22/2005 Land on your forearms with fists balled up to prevent injury. Don't hesitate, as this could lead to injury as well.

on 11/22/2005 Also be careful to not dive into the post. Look where you are diving as you focus on the ball.

on 11/22/2005 Watch out when you land on your hand. With the force of your fall, it is easy to injure your wrists. I broke my right wrist in three places catching myself from a diving header.
