Cobbler is a sweet treat that can be served for breakfast or dessert, or eaten as a snack, both cold and hot. You can use one fruit you love, such as strawberries, or mix similar fruits, such as raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 8-by-8-inch baking dish
  • Mixing bowl
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • Dash of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups fruit

      Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place the butter into the baking dish and set it in the oven to melt.

      Mix the flour, milk, egg, vanilla, salt, sugar and baking powder together in the bowl. You don't have to use a mixer -- a fork does just fine. This should leave you with a runny batter.

      Remove the butter from the oven and pour the batter into the baking dish. Do not stir. There might be a little sizzle when the cool batter hits the hot butter.

      Pour the fruit into the batter, again not stirring. You will see what looks like a really unhealthy amount of butter around the edges. Do not worry: It absorbs and cooks into the cobbler.

      Place the baking dish in the oven for an hour. Remove and allow to cool. Serve with ice cream, if you like.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have to use self rising flour simply leave out the baking soda.
