First-degree burn injuries are painful and red, but also superficial. These type of skin burns can be treated at home and heal within a week or so. But there are a few ways to promote healing and ease the pain.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Put in cool water. The first thing to do is to put the burned area in cool water to prevent the spread of the burning. Do not use ice water or butter. Both of these methods can actually make the burn worse. Keep the burn injury submerged for about 10 minutes.

  2. Step 2

Apply milk. Milk is cool and soothing. It relieves the pain because of the fat content. The coolness also helps with healing the burn injuries. Buttermilk is also useful. Apply the milk a few times a day. Soak for about 10 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Apply Aloe Vera. Aloe is a popular treatment for sunburns and other first-degree burns. It is soothing to the skin and can accelerate healing. Apply a few times a day.

  4. Step 4

Apply Vitamin E oil. A few days after the skin burn, apply vitamin E oil. Not only does this help with the healing process but the oil may also prevent scarring from the first degree burn..
