Instructions

    • 1

Refer to the instruction manual that came with your tanning bed to determine what voltage your tanning bed requires. Most tanning beds run off of a 120 volt power setting.

      Voltmeter

Purchase a voltmeter and use it to read the voltage of your electrical outlet. The common voltage in most homes is 120 volts, which is what is required of most tanning beds. However, it is always best to check as some homes differ.

    • 3

Plug the probes into the volt meter by placing the red cord into the positive (+) side and the black cord into the negative (-) side, and turn the dial to the type of unit you would like to measure, which is AVC for a wall outlet.

    • 4

Turn the voltmeter on and hold the probes by the insulated handles to the either side of the wall circuit, and read the display on the voltmeter to determine the voltage of your circuit.

    • 5

Purchase a buck and boost transformer if the voltage of your circuit and tanning bed differ. A buck and boost transformer will make small adjustments to the voltage of the tanning bed that will make it compatible with your home's voltage.

    • 6

Hook the buck and boost transformer up to the tanning bed by following the instructions that came with your transformer. Each transformer has it owns instructions, which usually simply consist of connecting the tanning bed to the transformer, and then plugging the transformer into the wall outlet.

Tips & Warnings

  • Arrange to have the tanning bed delivered inside your home, as they are extremely heavy. This usually requires paying an extra delivery fee.

  • Dedicate a separate circuit for the tanning bed as tanning beds use a high amount of power and could blow a circuit if connected to other appliances. Beware of electric shock when working with electricity; sometimes it is best to enlist the aid of a trained electrician than risk injury or electrocution.
