Butcher paper is a good medium for life-size art work. It can be hung on a wall so that kids can paint on it without fear of damaging the wall behind it. A farm scene is simple for most children to draw and can teach them about horizon lines and perspective. Painting a large mural on butcher paper of a farm scene works well as a class project or a rainy day project at home.

Draw the horizon line across the length of the butcher paper, 1/3 of the way from the top. Avoid straight lines, instead give it some dips and hills.

Add animals to the scene, under the horizon line. Horses, cows or chickens are common options.

Draw fences, clouds, trees or any other elements you want in your picture. Overlap the horizon line if necessary for larger items or items that are further away.

  6. Step 6

Color in your picture using crayons, markers or poster paints.

Tips & Warnings
  • Animals can also be cut from construction paper and glued on.
  • Avoid permanent markers that may bleed through the paper and stain the wall.
