Things You'll Need:
- 1 large standard screwdriver
- 1 red dot scope
- 1 cantilever scope mounting kit
-
Step 1
Determine whether you are more comfortable with the cantilever style mounts or the see through style mounts. Both systems will work on this application.
-
Step 2
Check the mounting base length. It needs to be long enough so the scope can be adjusted far enough forward to ensure proper clearance for casing ejection.
-
Step 3
Choose the mounting rings you prefer for the scope you will choose.
Cantilever mounts allow for the scope to be mounted away from the extraction port and permit some forward adjustment.
See through mounts do not permit much forward adjustment, but they raise the scope tube height to allow for casing ejection.
The choice comes down to whichever the shooter is accustomed to or more comfortable using. -
Step 4
Pick a scope type and style. A useful choice for the Remington 7600 is a short, tube-style variable-power scope in the 3 x 9 or 4 x 12 range. The red dot style scope helps you find the target quickly and provides satisfactory accuracy.
-
Step 5
For a see through mount, remove the screws from the receiver of the gun. Place the scope base plate mounting bracket on the receiver and re-install the screws.
-
Step 6
For a cantilever mount, place the scope base plate mounting bracket on the receiver and secure with the two large clamp style screws provided with the bracket.
-
Step 7
Loosen the clamp style screws from Step 6 and remove the top half of the scope ring clamp. Lay the scope tube in the cantilever bracket and install the top half of the scope ring with the screws you just removed. Adjust the vertical reference point and tighten screws.
-
Step 8
Place the gun on a solid table or shooting bench and use sand bags or a small shooting vise to prevent the gun from moving.
-
Step 9
Place the large piece of cardboard place at a distance of around 50 yards from the rifle with a 1-2 inch circular target drawn in the center of the cardboard. This will help you determine how the scope needs to be adjusted.
-
Step 10
Fire the gun a couple of times to see where the bullets strike the cardboard. While the gun is in the same position, remove the vertical and horizontal adjusting caps from the scope.
-
Step 11
Looking through the scope, realign the vertical adjustment until it is in the vertical center of the bullet holes on the cardboard. Do the same for the horizontal adjustment.
-
Step 12
Shoot the gun a few more times to see where the bullets strike the target.
-
Step 13
Check for accuracy and adjust again as necessary. Remove the gun from the vise or sand bags and check the tightness of all scope mounting system screws.
