How to Convert ASCII Files to JPG Files

If you want to retain the formatting of an ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) file to put on a website, for a slideshow or for other presentation purposes, it is often easier to convert the ASCII file to a JPG (short for Joint Photographics Experts Group) file. There are no reliable ways to accomplish this automatically through a batch file conversion process; but thankfully, it is easy to do manually.

Instructions

    • 1

Download, install and run MWSnap (see Resources).

    • 2

      Open your ASCII file.

    • 3

      Click "Any rect. area."

    • 4

      Click "Snap any area."

    • 5

Click one corner of the area you would like to convert to JPG, then move the mouse to the opposite corner of the area and click again; MWSnap window will open again.

    • 6

      Click "File", then "Save as..."

    • 7

Click the down arrow beside "Save as type:", select "JPEG files (*.jpg)" and name your file.

    • 8

      Click "Save."

Tips & Warnings

  • MWSnap is very useful for doing screen shots and is a good program to keep handy for documenting online transactions and making copies of web sites you do business with. Taking a snapshot of a moneyback guarantee is always a good idea. MWSnap will save files in a variety of formats and has many useful features.
