How to Learn Lamaze
Lamaze is a child birthing technique created by Dr. Fernand Lamaze in 1951. At the core of any Lamaze class is relaxation, breath and understanding the series of events that occur as you are giving birth. It incorporates fathers as part of the experience to help nurture and support you as you are progressing. There are many classes offered by hospitals and natural child-rearing organizations to help you learn how to give birth with as little medical intercession as possible.

How to Learn Lamaze
-
1
Find a Lamaze educator or provider. There is a list of certified instructors at Lamaze International that can help locate your nearest teacher. There are group classes or private training sessions available, depending on your location.

2
Alternatively, or in conjunction with a class, find a Lamaze book or DVD. There are many items available online that walk you through the process. Remember that Lamaze has grown from being just about breathing. It is a mental discipline and guided journey in creating life.

Practice the techniques. Whether you have taken a class or read a book, it is important that you and your partner practice the methods you learn. Just as an athlete prepares for a competition, you are preparing for a major physical event that requires mental, emotional and physical stamina. Just reading a book and hoping all will fall into place is not enough.
