Things You'll Need:
- Metal bag support hanger
- Pencil
- Step ladder
- 1/8-inch drill bit
- Drill
- 2 lag screws, 3 to 4 inches long
- Socket and wrench
- Bag chain, 3 to 4 feet in length
- Heavy bag
-
Step 1
Find the location of the wooden ceiling joist or beam in the area of where the bag will be hung. Hold the metal bag support hanger to the ceiling. Typically, the bag support will have two holes. Line up the holes of the support in the same direction of the joist or beam. In other words, the holes should be parallel with the joist. Mark the holes with a pencil.
-
Step 2
Place the step ladder underneath the marked space. Install the 1/8-inch drill bit into the drill. Bore two holes through the drywall, if applicable, and into the wooden joist or beam. These starter holes enable a clean insertion of the lag screws.
-
Step 3
Attach the support to the ceiling with the lag screws. Use the socket and wrench to tighten by hand. Size of the socket will depend on the size of the recommended lag screws. The metal bag support manufacturer will specify the size of the lag screws to be used. Tighten the lag screws securely so there is no movement in the support bar.
-
Step 4
Install the bag chain onto the bag support. Typically this is a clevis-type pin or a 1/2-inch diameter bolt. Method of this attachment depends solely on the type of bag support purchased.
-
Step 5
Hang the bag onto the chain. Set the height that is comfortable for you. You may want to leave excess bag chain so you can change the height for different exercises.
