Click the Windows "Start" button and click "Run" or "Start Search" (Windows Vista users).

Type "regedit" (without quotes) and press "Enter" to open the registry window.

Click the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" folder on the left panel and click "Software." Click "Microsoft" and click "Internet Explorer." Click the "Main" subkey." Make a backup of the Main subkey by clicking the "File" button on the top panel and clicking "Export."

Select a location to save the backup and type a name for it in the "File name" box. Click "Save" to back up the Main subkey.

Delete the "Search Bar" value from the Main subkey after completing the backup.
