Things You'll Need:
- Sewing machine
- Needle and thread
- Measuring tape
- Nylon
-
Step 1
First you will want to measure your child's head with a measuring tape where you will want the headband to sit. For toddlers this may turn into a "fun game" for them and it will be harder for you to get an accurate measurement just have a toy or other bribe handy to occupy then for a few seconds while you measure. Write that down and then subtract two inches off that number for example 20 inches minus 2 inches = 18 inches. This is how long your nylon strip will be.
-
Step 2
Figure how wide you want the headband to be then double the measurement. For example if you want the headband to be one inch wide you will then double that to a strip of nylon two inches wide. For example using the above examples we know have a piece of nylon 18 inches long by 2 inches wide.
-
Step 3
Fold the nylon piece in half lengthwise and line up the seams. Sew the seams shut using a small zigzag stitch. Trim any extra fabric and turn inside out. If you are having trouble turning it inside out use a crotchet needle to help push the fabric through. The wider the headband the easier it is to turn inside out.
-
Step 4
Lay the piece of fabric flat and the fold the two ends together and sew them using a straight stitch. You should now have a headband. Make sure that you take in account the seam and position that to the back where no one will see it. Now you are ready to decorate. Let you imagination run and have fun.
