Learn how to remove hard water deposits from your dishes without any scrubbing.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sink
  • Vinegar
  • Paper Towel
  1. Step 1

Purchase a jug of distilled, white vinegar. Store-brand is just fine; you'll need about half gallon. Spend as little as possible- buy the cheapest stuff you can find.

  2. Step 2

Fill the sink with cold water (not hot). Add half of the white distilled vinegar. The exact ratio is not important- eyeball it. Leave room in the sink for dishes. Don't use hot water- the hard water deposits won't come off as well.

  3. Step 3

Place dishes in the sink one at a time; let them sit in the vinegar-water for 3-4 hours. You'll see very fine bubbles on the dishes- this is the chemical reaction between the vinegar and the deposits.

  4. Step 4

Remove dishes from water- dunk them several times in the sink before moving to a drying rack.

  5. Step 5

Repeat steps 3&4 with subsequent batches of dishes until complete. Replace lost water with vinegar.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a wet paper towel to remove thick deposits after soaking.
  • Scale will redevelop over time. Expect to soak dishes 2-3 times/ year.
