Shape a Cowboy Hat With a Tea Kettle

The cowboy hat is an essential tool for today's cowboy. The cowboy hat can be used for many things from sheltering it's owner from the elements to fanning the flames of a fire. The cowboy hat also adds an air of mystique and prestige to it's owner, so proper handling and care is crucial.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • cowboy hat in need of shaping
  • teakettle
  • commercial stiffener (if desired)
  • upside down mixing bowl
  1. Step 1

Fill teakettle with water and put on the stove to heat.

  2. Step 2

While water is heating, clean and brush the hat starting with the crown.

  3. Step 3

Using the steam from the teakettle, hold the hat approximately 10 inches from the steam until the hat is damp.

  4. Step 4

Begin shaping the hat. Don't be afraid to use a clean counter or arm to help get the right shape! A counter can help make a nice crisp corner, while your forearm could give a wonderful rounded effect. Continue the process until the desired shape is achieved.

  5. Step 5

Once you have the shape you like, spray with commercial stiffener, if so desired.

  6. Step 6

Place your finished hat on an upside down mixing bowl and allow to dry completely.
