Step 1
If you want to say "thank you" to your teacher, start showing them in actions.
It is too easy to think about how thankful we are but then model something else. Actions do speak louder than words. Show your appreciation by making their job easier. Be sure that you are showing, through assignments, being prompt and attentive, etc., how much respect you have for them. -
Step 2
Say the words "thank you."
Teachers do not often get positive feedback on their job. Sometimes a simple "thank you for helping me" could go much further than even a small gift at the end of the year. -
Step 3
Let them know in the right way and at the right time how much they have helped you.
They may have been a mentor, they may have encouraged you, they may have taken extra time to teach something difficult, or they may have inspired you. Whatever it was that they did, let them know. However, be careful that it does not sound like you are trying to get in favor with the teacher. During the semester or class, simply say "thanks" or "I really appreciate that", etc. Keep it simple. After the semester or class is over, let them know in more words how much what they did really helped you. Let them know if they inspired you or will have a long lasting impact on you. -
Step 4
Let other people know how thankful you are for your teacher.
Let your parents know how much that teacher has helped you out. Let the building principal know how much you like that teacher. Too often, the praise is given privately and complaints are presented publicly. Principals tend to hear much more of the complaints. They need to hear the praise also. Let them know how much you appreciate that teacher.
