If you live where the snow comes down, then you know all to well what comes with the snow...SALT
Easily remove salt from your rubber floor mats that has built up over the winter time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • HOT water
  • Strong degreaser
  • Bug remover cleaner
  • Hard bristle brush
  1. Step 1

Pour hot water on the floor mat and let sit until cooled.
I sometimes boil the water to get it hotter.

  2. Step 2

After the water is cooled, spray a strong degreaser over the entire mat, and let sit for atleast 5 minutes.
Spray on heavier for the worse sections

  3. Step 3

Scrub the mat with a hard bristle brush in a circular motion
I find a larger carpet brush works allot faster.

  4. Step 4

    Rinse the floor mat thoroughly

  5. Step 5

Spray a strong Bug/tar remover on the mat.
You can usually pick some up at your local grocery store/ automotive store for pretty cheap.
Let stand for about a minute.

  6. Step 6

Scrub again with a hard bristle brush, and rinse.

  7. Step 7

Let dry, and enjoy your nice clean mats.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can rub a leather conditioner on the mat after your done cleaning it, to make it look shiny again
  • Access to a power washer will make it easier to remove the salt
  • If your mats are looking slightly discolored after washing them, you can get interior plastic floor mat spray paint, and it will make them look new again.
  • Always test a small area of the surface with the cleaner to make sure it wont discolor or stain.
  • Be sure not to let the Bug/Tar cleaner let stand for to long, or it will cause discoloration.
